Discover one of the most fascinating places on earth...go ahead, look at your hand. What, you don't see them? THEY ARE ALL AROUND US! The world you cannot see with the naked eye. We will look closer with the aid of various microscopes to see and explore the microscopic world.

Objectives - This course is designed to introduce the concepts of microscopy and encourage their incorporation into the classroom. Provide training for maintenance of light microscopes and apply concepts during sessions with the middle schoolers..

Light Optics Theory and Construction

Light microscope maintenance, alignment, observation

Sample Preparation

Wet lab sample prep for light and electron microscopy
Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM)
Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
Confocal Microscopy

Hands-on

We will begin the course with basic introduction to microscopy and then expand concepts to more advanced microscopy techniques. We will examine different preparation techniques and learn how to analyze and interpret results. The we expect that the participants will be able to gain sufficient knowledge and confidence to apply the leant techniques in the classroom. During the kids' sessions, teachers will have the opportunity to lead sections under guidance of the instructors. In our final session, we will critic each lesson and formulate a workable lesson plan.

Sessions with the kids during the camp
